An old Christmas tune says we’re in “the most wonderful time of the year.” We at Brandermill Woods love the holiday season—the lights, the baked goods, the carolers, the time to spend with our families. There’s a lot of magic in the weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, but the holidays can also be incredibly stressful:Dec. 21 is the winter solstice, the “shortest” day of the year.

Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays – a restful time all about family and food, without the madness of shopping, costumes and the like. We’ve got a lot to be thankful for here in Central Virginia. Above all else, we’re thankful for our seniors and their families for giving our lives purpose.With that in mind, we recently asked some of our residents what they’re most thankful for.

The holidays are upon us once again, starting with Thanksgiving. This fine American celebration has interesting roots here in Virginia going back 400 years to the settlement of Jamestown. There, our country’s earliest settlers experienced an extremely harsh winter in 1609-1610.

While we are enjoying the beginning of sweater weather and autumn leaves, now is the time to take care of a few things to get ready for the cold of winter on the horizon.
