Celebrating Brandermill Woods’ First 30-Year Employee!

Tuesday, April 16, 2019

The idea for Brandermill Woods—a continuing care retirement community focused on an active lifestyle for Central Virginia seniors—was born in 1986, and for more than 30 years we have been re-defining what it means to retire. Achieving this mission has only been possible because of our dedicated team—many of whom have decades of experience with us.

Last month, we were thrilled to congratulate our first 30-Year Employee, Kenneth Jennings! Kenny is a porter in the Haven skilled nursing facility and the Chesterfield assisted living community. On March 6, 1989, he worked his first day at the Brandermill Woods, excited to be part of the new retirement community but with no idea that he was embarking on a 30+-year journey.

“I don’t like sitting around. I like to be moving,” Kenny said of his work at Brandermill Woods. Asked about his favorite part of our community, he smiled and said, “I like the atmosphere, the environment. It looks like new all the time.”

When he’s not at work, the Nottoway County native likes to shop, watch movies and follow football—cheering for his favorite team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also enjoys detailing and customizing automobiles.

A Community is About Relationships

Brenda Clark shared that she met Kenny for the first time when she first came to Brandermill Woods in 1991 as the executive housekeeper. “He’s always been very dependable, loyal and a delightful person to work with,” she said. She remembered that he has always said he loves working at Brandermill Woods and wasn’t going anywhere else.

“Employees like Kenny make our community feel like home,” said Charmaine Preiss, executive director of Brandermill Woods.

“Everyone who works here takes to heart that we’re part of a community, and communities are about relationships—relationships among the residents, relationships among our team, and relationships between our team and our residents. Everyone—residents and team members—loves Kenny, and we’re lucky to have him as part of the Brandermill Woods community.”
