Trick or Treat: Halloween Fun Coming to Brandermill Woods

Monday, October 28, 2019

The air is cooling, the leaves are turning and before we know it, the cutest little visitors will be headed our way. With Halloween imminent, parents everywhere are making something creative from Pinterest or buying the latest princess or superhero costume. In fact, according to USA Today, you’re sure to see plenty of Spiderman and Elsa (from Disney’s Frozen) miniatures knocking on your door Oct. 31.

Here at Brandermill Woods, Halloween is a festive time in which we broaden our community and invite children from our surrounding neighborhoods to come for trick or treating.

“We love this special time of year, and our residents enjoy the energy and joy all these little people bring,” said Willia Lloyd, Activities Supervisor. “So many smiles and colorful costumes! It’s always so much fun.”

Last year more than 200 children visited Brandermill Woods from our team’s families and the neighboring community at large. For 2019, we will be open for trick-or-treaters from 6-8 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31, so we invite our neighbors to join us.

Children may visit any of the cottages with porch lights on. They can also come into our main lobby and the Club House meeting room for treats. Lights, music and decorations will create a party atmosphere. Children can also trick-or-treat around the room with residents from the apartments who choose to participate. We encourage the children not to run inside, in order to maintain safety for all.

Halloween also provides a fun time to reminisce. Who remembers watching “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown?”, cutting a sheet into a costume and sorting through a stash of candy to find all the Reese’s Cups or Kit Kats? Trick-or-treating has been an American tradition since the early 1900s, but it has an even longer history among the Celts.

As we prepare for the Halloween festivities, take a moment and share a favorite memory with a friend. Then, get ready to make new memories — stock up on some special treats. Word on the street is that Spiderman loves miniature candy bars!
