40 Years In The Making

Here, neighbors become friends and staff become family. For 40 years, Brandermill Woods has been shaped by shared experiences, lasting relationships, and a deep commitment to living well—together. We’re a welcoming, active, and culturally rich community where life is full of purpose, connection, and care. From world-class dining to expert home maintenance, we handle the “have tos,” so you can enjoy the “want tos.” This is retirement — refined, reimagined, and ready for what’s next.

1986: Brandermill woods opens

September saw the first residents move in to Brandermill Woods as we opened our first Independent Living cottages, offering a new retirement opportunity to residents of Midlothian, Virginia.

1988: BRANDERMILL WOODS CLUBHOUSE IS ADDED

Staff and residents celebrate the opening of a brand new clubhouse to host a variety of activities  including bridge socials, parties, craft classes and community service projects to name a few. In this same year, we welcome the addition of our beloved Oscars dining room.

1990: HEALTH CARE CENTER OPENS

In 1988, we broke ground on the next phase of construction, adding 3-floors of 120-beds to a new Health Care Center. Doors opened soon thereafter, welcoming our first Assisted Living resident, Mr. Samuel Ferst.

1991: phase II expansion begins construction

On October 10, 1991, Brandermill Woods hosted a ground-breaking ceremony to initiate the construction of 140 new Independent Living apartments and cottages.

2017: INDEPENDENT LIVING EXPANSION OPENS

We added new amenities and upgrades while preserving the small-town feel our residents love. In addition to a beautiful clubhouse, we added more food options, a theater, a pool, and more space in general for us all to explore our hobbies and passions.
