Important Status Update from Charmaine Preiss, Executive Director                               01/18/2021

HealthCare Community – The Haven, Assisted Living and Memory Care

COVID-19 testing conducted on January 18, 2021 found that one employee in Assisted Living and one contracted vendor in the Beauty Salon tested positive. They are now quarantined at home.  The Salon will be closed for 14 days beginning January 19, 2021.

After contact tracing was completed, we proceeded to do rapid testing for all residents in the Assisted Living, Memory Care and Haven for COVID-19.All test results were negative.  On January 20, 2021, we will retest all residents in the Assisted Living and Memory Care for COVID-19.  We will continue to monitor temperatures and signs of any symptoms for all residents.

On January 13, 2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) website reported a 22.3% positivity rate for Chesterfield County.  We will continue as mandated to test all Health Care Community employees twice a week until the positivity rate drops below 10%.  We continue to follow all CMS, CDC and VDH guidelines.  The direct care staff continue to wear N95masks, and all employees continue to practice frequent and thorough handwashing. Employees continue to be screened daily for signs/symptoms prior to their shift.

Our CVS vaccination clinic managed on January 14/15, 2021 was a huge success.  100% of our residents in the Assisted Living/Memory Care and 97.5% of the residents in The Haven participated.  The second round will beheld on February 4/5, 2021.

The CDC has posted the following answer to the most asked question in regards to receiving the vaccine.

Do I need to wear a mask and avoid close contact with others if I have gotten 2 doses of the vaccine?

Yes. Not enough information is currently available to say if or when CDC will stop recommending that people wear masks and avoid close contact with others to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. Experts need to understand more about the protection that COVID-19 vaccines provide in real-world conditions before making that decision. Other factors, including how many people get vaccinated and how the virus is spreading in communities, will also affect this decision. We also don’t yet know whether getting aCOVID-19 vaccine will prevent you from spreading the virus that causes COVID-19to other people, even if you don’t get sick yourself. CDC will continue to update this page as we learn more. While experts learn more about the protection that COVID-19 vaccines provide under real-life conditions, it will be important for everyone to continue using all the tools available to help stop this pandemic.

Together, COVID-19 vaccination and following CDC’s recommendations for how to protect yourself and others will offer the best protection from getting and spreading COVID-19.

Window and virtual visits are still encouraged until we are able to reopen.  For all residents in the Assisted Living/Memory Care and residents in The Haven who occupy a semi-private room with a roommate, we are scheduling resident/family window visits. The duration of the visit is 30 minutes. Please email Trisha Pedersen at tpedersen@brandermillwoods.com to schedule your visit.  The residents in the Haven who occupy a private room have access to a window, therefore, no appointment is necessary for a window visit.

Please continue to check the blog on our website www.brandermillwoods.com for additional information.

Thankyou in advance for your continued support and cooperation.
