5 Ways to Celebrate Women’s History Month

Tuesday, March 22, 2022

March is marked as Women’s History Month. At Brandermill Woods we believe in celebrating women all year round and shining a light on our wonderful female residents and staff members. We ensure our facilities and activities present opportunities for you to treat yourself, take care of your health and have fun.

To mark the month, here are 5 tips for women to make the most of retirement—or any time!

1. Try something new.

Even in retirement, know that it's never too late to try something new. New hobbies can be rejuvenating, teaching you new skills and creating new memories. Whether it’s an activity on the social calendar that you’ve been considering for a while or something off campus, take the plunge and give it a try before the end of the month.

2. Enjoy the camaraderie.

Social wellness is important at any age, but connecting with friends regularly in older age can have a big impact on your overall health. Whether it’s a lunch date with the gals, a reflective Bible study or a gregarious happy hour, spending time with family and friends helps keep the mind sharp and spirits high. Take time this month to enjoy the camaraderie within your community.

3. Treat yourself.

Celebrate by treating yourself this month. For ideas you can consider choosing either of the following:

  • A physical item: This includes anything from gadgets or clothes to sports equipment. No item is too small.
  • A service: If you’ve been putting off that spa date or nail appointment for a special occasion then now’s the time to book it.
  • A trip: Is there a country you’ve always wanted to visit? Consider knocking that trip off your bucket list.

 4. Focus on your mental health.

When it comes to wellness, mental health is often overlooked but should be paid special attention to as you age. Caring for your mental health will ensure that you’re happier, focused and have energy to do more of the things you enjoy. It may also lower your risk for anxiety, depression, Alzheimer's and dementia. Join with others to do fun activities such as puzzles, chess, sudoku or painting that keep your brain active.

5. Plan a group event.

One of the best ways to celebrate women’s history month is by planning a group event with family, friends or other women on campus to do something that you can all enjoy together. Plan a picnic, attend a concert or go out for brunch. There’s no shortage of options both on and off campus.

At Brandermill Woods we’re delighted to celebrate the women on campus today and every day. If you’d like to schedule a tour, call us at (804) 744-1173!
