Important Status Update from our Executive Director — 12/02/2020

Wednesday, December 2, 2020

Yesterday evening we were informed that one of our Independent Living residents tested positive for COVID-19. The resident lives in a cottage and has not been to the clubhouse or any other area on the ILU community in the last 14 days. The resident is isolated at home. We have contacted the residents who have had exposure due to using the same care givers as our resident who tested positive and they are quarantined at home until December 15, 2020. Our plan is to continue contact tracing of residents and employees potentially exposed.

Our Infection Control Preventionist has been contacted and is working with the ILU Management Team. We have been in contact with the VirginiaDepartment of Health and they have approved our plan moving forward. At this time, we are taking extra precautions by implementing a 14-day lockdown for our ILU Community. Effective immediately, we are requiring all approved medically necessary visitors and care givers to provide us with a negative COVID-19 test result once a week before they are allowed to come to the ILU community. For your convenience, Brandermill Woods staff can administer the test. Please contact the Wellness Nurse at ext. 203 for information and scheduling.

We will also be required to extend our closing of all our amenities and cancel all activities through December 15,2020. We will monitor this and may extend the lockdown for a period of time until we are confident that we can resume those operations safely. We have updated our protocols that provide important information for families and residents. Please be sure to read that update.

We have implemented extra sanitation measures for all common areas including the elevators. All staff with direct resident contact is required to wear KN95 masks and follow 6 feet distance along with all other protocols we have in place.

Please let this be a reminder to all of our residents and families the importance of following CDC guidelines which include wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently and practicing social distancing. This virus is highly contagious and letting your guard down for just a moment can be the difference between getting the virus or remaining safe.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
