Active Aging Week 2008
Catch the Buzz!
September 22-28 has been declared Active Aging Week 2008. Why celebrate Active Aging Week? We all want to live life to the fullest. According to the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), we can do this by participating in the various aspects of wellness – physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and vocational. It’s all about choices and priorities! Choose to make physical activity a priority. Choose to exercise your brain. Choose to stay connected to yourself and your social network. (The Journal on Active Aging, March/April 2008)
The staff at Brandermill Woods has planned a fantastic week of meaningful activities to celebrate the week. Some are variations on old favorites, and others are brand new. Our hope is that residents, staff, friends and families will find inspiration to remain “Busy as a Bee” as they journey through life! Our theme this week...“Bee Active!” Activities planned include the following, and are open to the public:
Monday, September 22: Jonathan the Juggler will perform at Brandermill Woods at 2:00 p.m. Prepare yourself to be entertained!
Tuesday, September 23: Take a yoga class at 2:00 p.m. or come to a yoga demonstration at 2:45 p.m., followed by an osteoball demonstration at 3:00 p.m. Before leaving, consider a paraffin hand dip for a nominal fee. Hear the sounds of the Richmond Jazz Society at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, September 24: A representative from the Alzheimer’s Association will present “Maintain Your Brain” at 11:00 a.m. When people think about staying fit, they generally think from the neck down. But the health of your brain plays a critical role in almost everything you do: thinking, feeling, remembering, working, and playing – even sleeping. Come to this program to learn more about brain health.
Thursday, September 25: Attend the Brandermill Woods Golf Tournament at Birkdale Golf Club. Contact Lisa Keppler at 521-8282 for more information. Join our therapy department, Rehab Systems, at 2:00 p.m. to learn strategies to stay safe, prevent falls and increase balance.
Friday, September 26: Get creative! See a floral arrangement presentation and try your hands at the craft! The demonstration will be at 10:00 a.m. If you would like to put an arrangement together, the cost is $15 and registration is required! Call Lisa Keppler at 521-8282.
Saturday, September 27: There will be a canned food drive and a Salvation Army pick-up. Drop items off at the front office to be included in this charitable day.
